Government Aid

A.K.A. Welfare, Wic, Medical Insurance

This is a very controversial topic, so I’m going to just dive right in. I have many angles that I would like to address before sending up the flags.

First, I own a business that accepts welfare food stamps, so I have an understanding that some people my not have. Second, I know many people that are on food stamps, Wic, and other government assistance. Third, throughout my life I have experienced being “In the system”, hence being on the system.

As a non- cooking food business owner, I have the option to except food stamps. I see people every day coming in to purchase pizzas and other items with their food stamps. I do have a lot of understanding for people that have no other option. Maybe they can’t work and are disabled, or some other life altering thing happened to them and they do not have ability to work. I get that, but the people that have the ability to work, choose not to, and continue to collect government aid, just so they can have an easier life. That is NOT ok. Cut back! Get a smaller house, stop buying expensive material things. Rather, STOP BUYING THING’S, learn to live on what you have. Yep, that may mean eating Ramen noodles, bananas, and peanut butter and jelly, every day, until you can get back on your feet. Oh no, not that! Yep, get over it. Stop coveting and believing you deserve what others work so hard for.

When I get people that come in and purchase a large quantity of items, so that they can have a party, that makes me really upset. Those people are not truly in need. When people abuse it, needed or not, they need to lose it. That’s not acceptable! On the other hand, I have also seen people that are really down on their luck. They have come in and purchased a pizza for their family. I am very thankful that families with children can come in for a treat once in awhile. Escaping from their reality, just for one night, one meal. Maybe they have no family members that can help them.

Question: If we qualify for it, should we collect it? You have an option to not accept food stamps, but we as humans want, want, want, more, more, more. If we don’t have to work for it then it’s even better, right? Wrong! Working hard and actually earning what you have, gives you such a sense of accomplishment. What if you have children and you can’t work? My answer, why can’t you work? Are you breastfeeding and the baby does not take a bottle? Do any of your children have a disability that no one else can care for? Then you have the ability to work. Yes, I know that you would have to work opposite your spouse or ask a family member to babysit, but you gotta do what you gotta do. God, gave us work as a gift. He allows us the ability to earn what we seek out of this life.

For those that are receiving assistance, this is NOT an attack on you. It is merely my observations and opinions. I am not here to condemn and judge, but to help people, to learn and possibly shed some biblical light on this topic. Yes, I said that the bible talks about welfare and being a slave to “the lender”. Yep, those on welfare are a slave to the lender which is the government. What? You mean it’s not FREE money. Ya, ok, and monkey’s are flying out of my butt. Someone always has to pay in order for you to receive your, well, their money. By you getting “Free” money, the government is taking it from someone else that is working very hard for that money. There are always strings. Nothing is ever FREE. Well, except God’s gift for eternal life for those that choose to except it. 😉

I believe there is a time and place for all of these items. As I stated above, I grew up in the system and after I had a couple of my children, I remained in the system. I never thought anything about it. It was common life for me, but understand, when your in the system, your in the system. They know everything about you, not that the government can’t find anything they want to know about you, but when you’re in the system, they own you. As I have grown up and have become a believer, I have found that relying on others to support my family is NOT biblical. Yes, people have hard times. Yes, people go through major hardships and need assistance. That is what family, church, and as a last resort, welfare is there for. To help those that can not help themselves. I for no reason think that this system should be used as much as it is. It is there for a time and a place, for a very limited amount of time. Most American’s and honestly, Christians as well, have become reliant on this system. If they can get it, they do. Does that make it ok? I don’t believe so. IT’S CALLED A JOB! Or maybe a second job. So many people fall victim into thinking that they do not have to have a job, just get the free money. It’s easier for them to rely on the government. When did that ever become ok? My goodness, back in the day people where so embarrassed if another person even thought that they were on welfare, let alone being on it. Now, it’s so common that people almost flaunt it. It’s NOT ok! The bible very blatantly talks about not being lazy. We are suppose to take care of our own families, ect. It’s all over in Proverbs, 2 Thessalonians 3:10, and so many more. If you disagree, or just plain want more information, I implore you to look deeply in your bibles, pray, do your own research, Google it. Search, “what does the bible say about welfare?” Never once does the bible state that it is ok to take hand outs from the government, or anyone else, so we do not have to work. I have seen so many families that claim to be in need, thereby on government assistance, and additionally going above that assistance, asking for help from others. All the while going into Walmart and getting things that far exceed anything that is a need. That’s so sad! I get so upset. Am I jealous,? perhaps. I work so hard for my money. To see people just blowing my money, the taxes I pay, pays for their items, so yes, it’s yours’ and my money they are spending on things that I can’t even afford. Family is supposed to help family. Men and some women are in charge of taking care and providing for their own families, not the government. I understand that people want to stay home with their children and such, but then stop taking money from the government, and from me, and do so. I would love to stay home and not have to have a job or work every day, doing what I wanted, but I’m not going to sell my soul and live off of the government to do so. That’s my option, everyone has one, relax. I will be very honest with you and let you know that our family does not make a huge amount of money. That being said, we qualify for many different government programs. We have DECLINED getting all of them, except the medical insurance. Under the state of Colorado you now need to apply for ANY medical insurance through a government website and that website tells you what your options are for insurance for each person in the home. That system put each of our children on medical assistance. My husband and myself however, have private insurance, that we pay a boatload for.

Life is tough, I get that. Some decisions are very difficult. There are many up’s and down’s. How can we preach to people about how crappy the government is, and then get financially supported by them. We can’t, that makes no sense. Further, as a society, what example are we setting for our children and the younger generations, when we have the ability to work, but choose not to? Oh Sweetie, it’s ok, you don’t need a job. The government will support you. What the heck! Nice example. I know that this post will have some of you seeing red and others screaming Amen! Neither one of those were my intent. My intent was to bring this to your attention, because this has become a huge epidemic. I see it every day in my business, I see it at the stores, I see it everywhere. It boils down to one word, Self entitlement. I deserve…. fill in the blank, and I’m just as bad as the next person, but I do not give into that. I want, I justify, I make wrong decisions, but my moral compass (my guide, the Holy Spirit) smacks me and always sets me straight. Letting me know that I am entitled to nothing, but hard work. We, as believers need to understand, and move towards righteousness. Righteousness has nothing to do with self anything. Say, it with me, WE ARE ENTITLED TO NOTHING, BUT HARD WORK! Stop using government aid to supplement your income, unless you are truly in need. What constitutes someone being in need? If you can’t afford the bare minimum food, like bread and milk, you’re in need. Notice what I said, bread and milk, not steak, fresh produce, and shrimp. Almost everyone these days is standing with their hands out, trying to get what they can, whether they need it or not. Double sad! Once again let me clarify. I have NO issue helping those, that truly need help. In fact, I try to find those people, and help them, so they no longer have to suffer. I have frequently given food to those on the street. I don’t give money because some could be a scam.

I understand that all of this comes down to a personal decision. You need to do what is best for your family, as we need to do what is best for ours. I have chosen NOT to live off of the government, doing as the Bible says. We have made many, many sacrifices in order for us not to do this. Like I have said in other posts, we don’t have cable, or expensive home phone. We don’t go out to eat much, our vehicles are nothing spectacular, no elaborate vacations, we do not go to the movies, we don’t do a whole lot of outside entertainment, and we live as inexpensively as we can. Do we get extra’s? Yes, we do! We work very hard and save much to be able to afford those extras without going into debt.

Why did I choose to write this? A couple of reasons. One, we have a big family and I wanted everyone to know that WE pay for each one of our children and ourselves. Two, there are WAY to many people, not truly in need, with their hands open, looking for a FREE handout. Whether that be from the government, or from other people, and it seems that your faith and beliefs take no precedence in this matter. Third, if you are a believer, have you looked into what the bible says about this? What if you are not good with the financing that God has given you, and you blow it on everything you want and then seek after financial help from the government, church, or others? What will God do then? Take it all away so that you can then get even more governmental aid? I’m not God, so I have no idea, but know that it is every believers moral obligation to research, and ask what would God want me to do? Again, also seeking after, What does the bible say about this.

I received this in my email the other day and thought that it went great with this post. I asked if I could share it, so here you go. Enjoy, it’s hilarious!

THE AFFORDABLE PLUMBING ACT

Only weeks after leaving office on January 20, 2017, former President Barack Obama discovers a leak under his sink, so he calls Troy the Plumber to come out and fix it.
Troy drives to President Obama’s new house, which is located in a very exclusive, gated community near Chicago where all the residents have a net income of way more than $250,000 per year.

Troy arrives and takes his tools into the house.  He is led to the guest bathroom that contains the leaky pipe under the sink.  Troy assesses the problem and tells President Obama that it’s an easy repair that will take less than 10 minutes.  President Obama asks Troy how much it will cost.  Troy checks his rate chart and says, “$9,500.”

“What?!  $9,500?!” Obama asks, stunned, “But you said it’s an easy repair.  Michelle will whip me if I pay a plumber that much!”

Troy says, “Yes, but what I do is charge those who make more than $250,000 per year a much higher amount so I can fix the plumbing of poorer people for free.  This has always been my philosophy.  As a matter of fact, I lobbied the Democrat Congress, who passed this philosophy into law. Now all plumbers must do business this way.  It’s known as the ‘Affordable Plumbing Act of 2014’.  I’m surprised you haven’t heard of it.”

In spite of that, Obama tells Troy there’s no way he’s paying that much for a small plumbing repair, so Troy leaves.  Obama spends the next hour flipping through the phone book calling for another plumber, but he finds that all other plumbing businesses in the area have gone out of business. Not wanting to pay Troy’s price, Obama does nothing and the leak goes un-repaired for several more days.  A week later the leak is so bad President Obama has had to put a bucket under the sink.
Michelle is not happy as she has Oprah and guests arriving the next morning.  The bucket fills up quickly and has to be emptied every hour, and there’s a risk the room will flood, so Obama calls Troy and pleads with him to return.

Troy goes back to President Obama’s house, looks at the leaky pipe, checks his new rate chart and says, “Let’s see, this will now cost you $21,000.”

President Obama quickly fires back, “What? A few days ago you told me it would cost $9,500!”

Troy explains, “Well, because of the ‘Affordable Plumbing Act,’ a lot of wealthier people are learning how to maintain and take care of their own plumbing, so there are fewer payers in the plumbing exchanges.  As a result, the price I have to charge wealthy people like you keeps rising. Not only that, but for some reason the demand for plumbing work by those who get it for free has skyrocketed!  There’s a long waiting list of those who need repairs, but the amount we get doesn’t cover our costs, especially paperwork and record-keeping. This unfortunately has put a lot of my fellow plumbers out of business, they’re not being replaced, and nobody is going into the plumbing business because they know they can’t make any money at it.  I’m hurting too, all thanks to greedy rich people like you who won’t pay their ‘fair share’.  On the other hand, why didn’t you buy plumbing insurance last December?  If you had bought plumbing insurance available under the ‘Affordable Plumbing Act,’ all this would have been covered by your policy.”

“You mean I wouldn’t have to pay anything to have you fix my plumbing problem?” asks Obama.

“Well, not exactly,” replies Troy. “You would have had to buy the insurance before the deadline, which has passed now. And, because you’re rich, you would have had to pay $34,000 in premiums, which would have given you a ‘silver’ plan, and then, since this would have been your first repair, you would have to pay up to the $21,000 deductible, and anything over that would have a $7,500 co-pay, and then there’s the mandatory maintenance program, which is covered up to 17.5%, so there are some costs involved.  Nothing is for free.”

“WHAT?!” exclaims Obama.  “Why so much for a puny sink leak?!”

With a bland look, Troy replies, “Well, paperwork, mostly, like I said.  And the internal cost of the program itself.  You don’t think a program of this complexity and scope can run itself, do you?  Besides, there are millions of folks with lower incomes than you, even many in the ‘middle class’, who qualify for subsidies that people like you must support.  That’s why they call it the ‘Affordable Plumbing Act’!  Only people who don’t make much money can afford it.  If you want affordable plumbing, you’ll have to give away most of what you have accumulated and cut your and Michelle’s income by about 90%.  Then you can qualify to get your ‘Fair Share’ instead of givingit.”

“But who would pass a crazy act like the ‘Affordable Plumbing Act’?!” exclaims the exasperated Obama.

After a sigh, Troy replies, “Congress… because they didn’t read it.”
